The number one seed went up against Inter Miami thinking they had the game in the bag, but the GOAT is dangerous — and he changed everything in the final ten minutes.
The vibes were immaculate. First place Philly, undefeated in eight, packed stadium, fans on fire, Messi in the house — what more could you ask for? A win? Yeah, that would’ve been nice. But instead, Union fans left with a mix of pride, disbelief, and a tiny bit of heartbreak after Inter Miami pulled off a wild 3-3 comeback draw at Subaru Park on Saturday night.

It all started like a dream. Seven minutes in, homegrown hero Quinn Sullivan smashed one in off a Wagner assist. Then, just before halftime, Tai Baribo doubled the lead with a clinical finish after some slick work from Uhre and Vassilev. Philly up 2-0 and cruising? Not so fast.

Miami got one back at 60′ through Tadeo Allende, but Union answered in the 73rd when Baribo did it again — his second of the night and his fourth multi-goal game this season. That’s a club record, by the way. Legend stuff. Some could agree he was a little bit offsides, but the ref decided that wasn’t the case.
Then came the twist.

87th minute. Messi. Free kick. You already know what happened. Top corner, no chance for Andrew Rick, although he was able to touch the ball a little bit. Subaru Park fell silent for just a second — before roaring again, but this time out of sheer respect. Five minutes later, chaos. Telasco Segovia picked up the scraps of a Messi assist and nailed the equalizer at 90+5′. And just like that, the Union’s ninth straight unbeaten match ended with a point, not three.
The Union are still first in the East. They’ve got 25 points, their streak is alive, and Baribo keeps scoring like it’s his side hustle. But letting Messi and Miami snatch that result? That one’s going to sting for a bit.

Next stop for the Union: Toronto; and for Miami: Montréal, both on Wednesday night. And yes, we move.
